Court date set for teacher

A May 4 hearing date was set Friday for the John F. Kennedy Middle School teacher charged with sexual battery of a female student.

Darick Cherry, 29, has hired Stan Clark, a Portsmouth attorney to represent him.

Cherry was charged March 26 after a 13-year-old female student told police that he placed his body atop hers and made inappropriate movements.

Other students were in the school gym when the incident allegedly occurred, police said.

Cherry was released on a $1,500 bond.
