Just as she did last season against Western Branch, Lindly Theroux pitched Nansemond River into softball history Friday, hurling her team to a first-ever 7-3 victory over visiting Great Bridge. Kristina Carpenter and Ali Mowry batted in two runs apiece for the Lady Warriors.
The NRHS baseball team wasn’t as lucky, falling 9-0 to the Wildcats. Both teams will visit Hickory on Tuesday.
After Natasha Hill knocked in a pair of goals in the first half to leave Nansemond River tied with Salem 2-2 at the break on Friday, Heather Proffit slammed in a score early in the second half and goalkeeper Amber Shaffer didn’t let a shot past for the rest of the night as the Lady Warriors won, 3-2.
The Lady Warriors and their male counterparts will host Churchland on Tuesday.
