Suffolk Executive Airport Suffolk will be receiving $450,000 in federal funds to be used to enhance the facilities at Suffolk Executive Airport, said U.S. Senator George Allen, R-Va.
Suffolk, one of 11 general aviation airports in the state to receive the funding, received the largest allocation in Virginia.
Allen said the Federal Aviation Administration awarded the grants to improve the efficiency, safety and value of each airport.
&uot;Many local airports are vital to the economy of their surrounding areas,&uot; said Allen. &uot;It’s important to keep these airports in top condition so that they can continue to generate business and create jobs while maintaining a standard of excellence in safety and service.&uot;
The Airport Improvement Program is a federal grant-in-aid program that represents a major source of funding for airport development and planning. The selected airports will use the FAA funds for various projects, including: apron construction and maintenance; removal of obstructing building; land acquisition; and the improvement of runway safety.
Details on how Suffolk will be using the funding were not available late Friday.
