Jaquon Parker and Michael Mason will lead the 13U AAU Suffolk Blazers into the national championships in Memphis, Tenn. in June. The 27-6 Blazers are ranked 25th in the country and second in the state, and will sharpen their skills at a tournament held in Oakland and Mack Benn recreation centers next weekend. While their male counterparts head to Memphis, the 14U Lady Blazers
will be playing for their own national title in Orlando, Fla. The ladies qualified for the tournament by taking third in the state at a tournament in Bristol in late April. For information on helping the team, contact coaches Rebecca Bailey at 729-5905 or Rickeda Bradley at 651-9564. Pictured: From left, Dale Pinchbeck, Dick Talton, J.T. Magee and Art Blausey helped the Nansemond Pointe and Hillcrest Retirement Center team to its second consecutive first-place finish in the Second Annual Larry Branch Memorial golf tournament last weekend at the Smithfield Downs. The event raised over $8,000 for the Relay for Life. The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy softball team had little to do but sit and wait as its game against St. Christopher’s on Thursday was cancelled when the umpires failed to show up.
