George R. Robert Ricks Sr., 46, of 724 Moore Farm Lane, Suffolk, died Friday, May 7, 2004, in Obici Hospital.
George was born on Feb. 5, 1958, to Catherine Young Ricks and the late Rev. James T. Ricks Sr.
George attended Smithfield High School.
He was employed for 15 years at Isle of Wight Forest Products.
He was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, Suffolk.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Evelyn Ricks of Newport News; his mother, Catherine Ricks of Suffolk; a devoted and loving friend, Shirley Melton of Suffolk; two daughters, Sheryl Melton of Suffolk, and Tershawn Ricks of Newport News; two sons, Christopher Ricks of Newport News, and George Ricks Jr. of Suffolk; three stepchildren, Sonya Melton, Antonio Melton and Shanel Melton, all of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Arnetrea, Mark Jr. and Marniesha, all of Suffolk; three sisters, Blondell Scott of Windsor; Barbara Jones (Charlie) of Holland, and Carolyn Ricks of Suffolk; four brothers, James T. Ricks Jr. (Annette), Larry Ricks (Syleslie), Charles Ricks (Maria), and Daryl Ricks (Rosalee), all of Suffolk; nine aunts; five uncles; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, in Diamond Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Glenn Lyttle and the Rev. Calvin Lillard. Interment will be in Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James T. Ricks Jr., 6474 Crittenden Road.
