Joseph Algie Stephens, 68, died Friday, May 21, 2004, at his home in Carrsville.
Mr. Stephens had retired from Union Camp Corporation, and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
A well-known breeder and handler of Dachshunds, he was also a member of Suffolk Moose Club, Walter’s Ruritan Club and a former National Guardsman.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Norris Stephens; two daughters, Karla S. Cobb of Windsor, and Debra S. Hedgepeth of Boaz; a son, Mike Stephens of Nags Head, N.C.; four stepchildren, Linda Andrews, Pam Edwards, Richard Ivey, and Steve Ivey; a sister, Nancy Rountree of Suffolk; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents, Junie and Louise Spivey Stephens.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. T.A. Powell and the Rev. Elijah Bonds officiating. Burial will follow in Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
