Charles Smith of Willingboro, N.J., departed this life Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in St. Luke Roosevelt Hospital, New York City.

He was born in Suffolk on Feb. 27, 1951.

He was a former member of St. Paul Baptist Church.

He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1969. He received a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, and his master of arts degree in rehabilitation counseling from New York University in New York.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Barbara Smith; daughter, Tiffany Smith of New York; two god-daughters, Latina Latasha Wright of Chesapeake, and Breanna Smith of New Jersey; father, William T. Dildy, and mother, Annie L. Dildy of Suffolk; five sisters, Willie Montgomery-Artis (Alvin) and Arlethia Ward (Charlie), both of Suffolk; Malinda Armstrong (Timothy) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Jo Ann Williams of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Martha Knight of Gates, N.C.; two aunts, Lillian Chapman (Lewis) and Pearl Dildy, both of Suffolk; two uncles, Clinton Dildy (Frances) of Sunbury, N.C., and Edward Dildy (Helen) of Gates; father-in-law, Charles Diggs of Baltimore, Md.; five sisters-in-law, Shirley Greenhill (Sam), Juanita DeShields, Roslyn Diggs, Michelle Woodard (James), all of Baltimore; and Delores Brooks (Clarence) of Oklahoma, Okla.; three brothers-in-law, Charles Diggs (Bernice), Jerry Diggs and Kevin Diggs of Baltimore; loyal friends, Marvin Jones (Allyson) of Jackson, Miss., Walter Fredericks (Carolyn) of Manhattan, N.Y.; and many other family members and friends.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, in St. Paul Baptist Church, Lincoln Avenue, by the Rev. C.V. Russell will officiate. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery with Crocker Funeral Home in charge.
