Administrators appointed

The Suffolk School Board at its June 3 meeting appointed the following administrators for the 2004-05 school year:

— Gail V. Bess was appointed Coordinator of Career and Technical Education and Adult Education. She has been assistant director at The Pruden Center for Industry and Technology since 1999. She has held a variety of teaching and instructional leadership positions with Suffolk Public Schools since 1977. She received her bachelor’s degree from Virginia State University, and her master’s degree from Old Dominion University. She replaces Dr. Emily Richardson, who is retiring.

— Franklin M. Chatman was appointed assistant principal at Nansemond River High School. He is a business education teacher at the school and has taught in Suffolk Public Schools since 1998. He also taught at Greensville County High School from 1995 to 1997. He received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia State University, and his master’s degree from Old Dominion University. Chatman is replacing Horatio Douglas, who will be an assistant principal at King’s Fork High School.

— Tawana W. Ford was appointed assistant principal at King’s Fork High School. She is a business education teacher at Nansemond River High School, where she has taught since 1992. She received her bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, and her master’s degree from Old Dominion University.

— Janice D. James was appointed assistant principal at Forest Glen Middle School. She is an instruction specialist with Norfolk Public Schools, where she has worked in special education since 1990. She received her bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University, and her master’s degree from Norfolk State University. She is replacing Valerie Walton, who is returning to school full-time.
