Leadership group to honor Barnett

Dr. George Barnett of Suffolk will be honored Thursday by Leadership Hampton Roads at its annual recognition luncheon.

Barnett, founder of Suffolk Tomorrow and president of the Suffolk Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, is slated to receive the Julian F. Hirst Award, which recognizes a Leadership Hampton Roads graduate who exemplifies excellence in community, civic or professional leadership and has made significant contributions to the Leadership Hampton Roads program.

Barnett, a former Suffolk mayor, is a 2004 Leadership Hampton Road graduate.

Chesapeake Mayor William Ward will rece3ive the Courage in Leadership Award, which is presented to individuals whose tireless and courageous efforts have led the 17 Hampton Roads communities to greater prosperity and partnership.

The event will be held at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and program begins at noon.
