Shooting victim in stable condition; 20-year-old charged with the crime

A southern Suffolk man is behind bars at Western Tidewater Regional Jail in connection withthe shooting of a Whaleyville resident Thursday afternoon.

Terry M. Widener, 20, of the 100 block of Liberty Springs Road, has been charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding and one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, said Suffolk Police Department spokeswoman Lt. Debbie George.

The victim, George C. Main IV, 18, of Whaleyville Boulevard remains in stable condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. Thursday outside the Pentecostal Followers Holiness Church, in the 6000 block of Whaleyville Boulevard.

Apparently, Widner and Main had been involved in a verbal fight before the shooting occurred, George said.
