Jr. Tennis Championships to be held July 20-26

The Local Junior City Tennis Championships will be held at Howard Mast Tennis Courts from 2 to 6 p.m. on July 20-26. The fee is $5 per event, make check to STA.

To play, juniors must live in Suffolk, go to school in Suffolk or be a Suffolk Tennis Association member.

Trophies will be awarded at the STA annual banquet.

Events offered will be boys & girls 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. Players may enter in two singles events (playing one age group up), one mixed doubles and one doubles.

Applications are on display at the Howard Mast tennis courts, or call Mast at 934-7822 for more information.

Holland Cheerleading

ICAA to hold football,

cheerleading registrations

The Inner-City Athletic Association will be holding Pop Warner football and cheerleading registrations from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday until Aug. 10 at the John F. Kennedy Middle School football field complex.

Registration is $60 for the first child and second $30 within the same household.

Obici taking signups

for golf tournament

The Louise Obici Memorial Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary is accepting registrations and sponsorships up through Sept. 8 for its annual golf tournament, to be held Oct. 1. The Auxiliary relies on the tournament to raise money in support of hospital programs. This year’s event will take place at the Nansemond River Golf Course.

The cost is $100 per person, $400 per team, and includes lunch and dinner. Sponsorships are also available at prices ranging from $200 to $2,500.

The auxiliary has dedicated its 2004 fund-raising to the purchase of portable defibrillators and books for the Catch ‘Em Early reading project that starts in the hospital’s Women’s Center. For more information on the golf tournament, call 934-3440.
