Flood watch issued for city

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Suffolk on Monday, as the area continued to experience significant rainfall like many parts of Virginia.

Suffolk emergency officials are &uot;monitoring water levels in ditches, streams and non-tidal rivers,&uot; said Capt. James T. Judkins, coordinator for the Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue, division of Emergency Management.

A flood watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy rain across the watch area, which can

lead to flooding along waterways.

Drivers should not enter areas where the water covers the roadway. Occupants of vehicles caught in rising water should exit quickly .
