The Lakeland golf team opened its season Tuesday with a loss to local rival Nansemond River at the Chesapeake Golf Club, then rebounded to defeat Churchland Tuesday at the Suffolk Golf Course.

Lakeland’s Nick Howell was the medallist in the second meet, shooting an 81, followed by Augie Camacho (83), Nolan Robertson (84) and Ryan West (86).

In the Nansemond River meet, Jonathan Faw grabbed the top honor with a 69, followed by Greg Hunt with a 75, Nolan Butler (81), and Ryan Foster (83).

Camacho had Lakeland’s lowest score with an 81, followed by Howell (92), Kevin Shelton (92) and Wes (97).

Lakeland hosts Oscar Smith Monday, while River hosts Deep Creek.
