Henry Jordan

Henry Jordan, 74, of 2508 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, died August 15,2004 in Autumn Care of Suffolk. He was a native of Southampton County and son of the late Elijah and Addie Lee King Jordan. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Lassiter.

He was an Army veteran and was retired from hospital work. He was a member of Healing Chapel Baptist Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Judy Jordan of Suffolk; a son, Michael Jordan of Alabama; a sister, Rebecca Johnson of Suffolk; three grandchildren; one aunt, Virtley Whidbee; devoted nieces, Linda Reid, Angela Wilson, Clementine Powell, all of Suffolk; devoted nephews, Charles Powell, Jr., James Powell, Samuel Gamble, and Andre Powell, Sr.; and a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday in Healing Chapel Baptist Church by Dr. Ajack Scott. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Virginia M. Joyner Lewter

Virginia M. Joyner Lewter, of 507 Spruce Street, Suffolk, died August 13, 2004 at her residence. She was a native of Sedley and daughter of the late Willie D. and Vinnie Alexander Joyner.

She was a member ofTabernac1e Christian Church where she was a Deaconess Emeritus and Past chairman of the Deaconess Board, a past member of the Sanctuary Choir and the Pastors Aid. She was also a Past Grand Deputy Organizer of the Order of Eastern Star, Past Youth Advisor for the Order of Eastern Star Grand Lodge, Past Grand Daughter Ruler of Golden Gate Temple #90, and Past Fish Bowl Queen of Shriners Temple #12

She is survived by her husband, Rawley Lewter; one son, Ronald Leon Lewter and his wife, Donna Skeeter Lewter of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Tionna Lewter and Jaleesa Lewter of Suffolk; a goddaughter, Chandra Godette; two brothers-in-law, Wallace Lewter (Marion) and Melvin Lewter of Suffolk; extended daughter, Rita S. (Allen) Gold of Texas; extended son, Burton (Judy) Jaffee of Virginia Beach; special friends, Clifton and Josephine Outlaw; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004 in Tabernacle Christian Church by Dr. Carlton Upton. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 10:30 a.m. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
