The Suffolk City Council on Wednesday will be looking at requests by downtown eateries, Baron’s Pub and Java-149, a coffeehouse opening in October, to allow seasonal, sidewalk seating.
The Suffolk City Council is meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Municipal Building, 441 Market St.
Highlights of the agenda include:
An ordinance to accept a $5,000 grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts (second reading)
An ordinance to accept a $15,000 FIREWISE community grant from the Virginia Department of Forestry (second reading)
An ordinance to accept a $2,714 grant from the Virginia Department of Aviation (second reading)
An ordinance to accept $4,729 from the Virginia Department of Aviation and to provide for $526 in local cash match (second reading)
An ordinance to accept $34,047 of state funds received through the asset forfeiture program for drug prosecution (first reading)
An ordinance to accept a $9,527 grant from the state Department of Environment Quality for the city’s litter prevention and recycling program (first reading).
An ordinance to accept additional funds from Isle of Wight and Southampton
counties and Franklin for the Fifth Judicial District Community Corrections Program (first reading)
An ordinance to accept a $20,066 grant from the Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program for senior citizen services provided in FY 2004-2005 (first reading).
An ordinance to accept $7,983 from the State Compensation Board for temporary salaries in the commonwealth attorney’s office (first reading).
An ordinance to grant an encroachment permit for property at 185 N. Main St.
An ordinance to grant an encroachment permit for property at 149 N. Main St.
A resolution supporting Chesapeake Service Systems’ request for $500,000 in federal funding to create additional job opportunities for the developmentally disabled.
A resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation to include streets in the Applewood and Riverfront subdivisions; Harbour Point Drive; and River Road in the state secondary road system.
Public hearing on an ordinance amending the city code as it relates to mopeds on public streets. (first reading).
