Salary study questioned

Editor, the News-Herald:
Why do you need to spend $50,000 to study salaries of police, fire and rescue workers across the region? Here is an idea called a temporary service, get a secretary for a week, and have her spend the 40 hours calling the other cities and find out what their salaries are. It shouldn’t be that difficult to get a salary chart for public jobs and should not cost anywhere near $50,000 to take more than a week to accomplish.
It’s outrageous to think you would spend $50,000 to study pay scales when you could use that money to help with the pay raises. How much study was done before the school board voted themselves a 100 percent pay raise?
