Clyde Bradley Sr.

Clyde Bradley, Sr. died September 12, 2004 at his residence. He was a native of Suffolk and the son &uot;baby&uot; of the late Leroy and Susie Tucker Bradley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Bradley, daughter, Linda Bradley, sister and three brothers, Leroy, John and Jesse Bradley.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 20 years, Julia C. Bradley. Other survivors include two sons, Clyde Bradley, Jr. of Georgia and Gregory L. Rodgers of Clinton, Md.; three daughters, Lenora M. Bradley of Richmond, Denise Bynum of Suffolk, Bonnie Y. Rodgers of Clinton, Maryland; one sister, Leola Eley of Hampton; two foster sisters, Lucille Hodges and Emily Crocker of Suffolk; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a host of devoted loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; two special friends, former football coach Charles Sneed of Portsmouth and Charles Christian of Suffolk.

Clyde’s church ministries were many. To name a few, he was Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Deacons, former Superintendent of Sunday School, former Sunday School teacher, past President of the Middle District Sunday School Union, past member of the Male Usher Board and past Church Moderator.

His community outreach ministries were many. To name a few, Vice President of the Booker T. Washington High School Alumni Association, charter member and past president of the East Suffolk Gardens Civic League, charter member of Suffolk Booster’s Club, past president of Nansemond Credit Union Board of Directors and life member of NAACP.

Clyde was employed as a greeter in the Lawn and Garden Shop at Suffolk Wal-Mart. He retired from the Bureau of Housing Inspection for the City of Suffolk. He also retired from the Naval Air Reworks Facility in Norfolk in 1988 after 33 years of service. He served his country in the Air Force and was honorably discharged.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 1 p.m. in Metropolitan Baptist Church by the Rev. Jarvis Jones. Interment will be held in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
