Patrick Whalen had three goals and three assists as Nanse-mond-Suffolk Academy defeated visiting BEACH Blast (a Virginia Beach home-schooled squad) 6-0 on Thursday afternoon.
Whalen got things started 10 minutes in when he sent a pass to Willis Taylor on the left sideline. Taylor charged down the field, got inside the goal box, and sent the goal to the back of the net. He assisted on the Saints’ second score with 17 minutes to play, dropping a pass to Daniel Curran at the center of the box.
Whalen began the second half the same as the first, corralling a Blast goal kick on the left sideline at the 33-minute mark. He looped a pass to the center, where Wade Cotton outraced a defender to score the contests’ third goal.
Ben Trujillo helped Whalen put his first mark in the scorebook four minutes later, hitting him on a breakaway down the center.
The pair combined for another goal with 18 minutes left, as Trujillo stole the ball on the left sideline and flipped a pass to Whalen in the center.
Whalen finished out his hat trick with 8:21 to go, as Curran grabbed a goal kick and slid a pass between two defenders for the score.
The Saints visit Stonebridge on Sept. 21.
