Jacqueline Vernetta Artis, 43, of 40 Stacry Drive, Suffolk, died November 12, 2004 at Obici Hospital. She was a native of Suffolk and the daughter of Johnnie Ray Artis, Jr. and the late Evelyn Copeland Artis.

She attended Suffolk High School and was self-employed. She was a former member of Metropolitan Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Crystal Artis of Suffolk; one son, Christopher Artis of Suffolk; four sisters, Cathy Hart, Annette Barnes (Willie), Debra Artis, and Angela Artis all of Suffolk; a step-sister, Pamela Smith (Kenny) of Suffolk; one step-brother Jayron Hale of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Jahmaeshah Cummings of Portsmouth, Tarik and Yvonne Scott of Suffolk; two aunts, two uncles, three nieces, six great-nieces, four nephews, two great nephews; a devoted friend, Ray Harry; two special friends, Celestine Edwards and Carolyn Harry; and a host of cousins and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2004 in Oak Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Sylvia Murphy. The interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
