A call to Combat Infantryman Badge recipients

Published 12:00 am Friday, December 3, 2004

Editor, the News-Herald:

This letter is addressed to Combat Infantryman Badge recipients in Virginia. This award is presented to those who have met an armed enemy of the United States in close combat. Only a few veterans received this award. It is worn above all other decorations.

The DMV has designated Major Gary Gibbs, US Army Retired, as the sponsor to receive the required 350 paid applications for a special license plate to honor these veterans. We have received over 180 applications that have proved their eligibility and paid the fee. If the 250 applications are not met by the Dec. 27 deadline, we have an option of paying a fee to the DMV and extending the deadline to try to meet this requirement.

Congressman Virgil Goode, Sen. Charles Hawkins, Delegates Allen Louderback, Robert Hurt and Danny Marshall are supporters of this special license plate. If you have received a Combat Infantry Badge or know of a veteran who has, please contact Major Gary Gibbs at (540) 743-7205 or ggibbs@shentel.net.
