Hazel C. Felton

Hazel Elizabeth Carter Felton, 92, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Born in Ahoskie in 1912, she grew up in Rocky Mount, N.C., and was the daughter of the late John and Adminta Williams Carter. At the beginning of the Great Depression she moved with her parents to Gates County. She joined the Baptist children’s organization, the &uot;Sunbeams,&uot; at the age of four and as an adult was affiliated with some branch of the Women’s Missionary Union through the Baptist church for her entire life. In her younger days she was involved in many church and community activities and she maintained a lively interest in those activities throughout her life. At the time of her death, she was a member of Winton Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Felton, she is survived by three daughters, Sue Felton Woodward and Mollie Felton, both of Suffolk, and Emily Felton Winstead of Winton, N.C.; three grandchildren, Thomas Woodward, III of Suffolk, Susan Woodward of Charlottesville, and Stacey Winstead of Raleigh, N.C.; her sister, Mae Carter Johnson of Potecasi, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Winton Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Charles Harris, pastor. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and all other times at the home of Emily Winstead, 203 Mulberry St., Winton, N.C.
