Good thing Santa uses the skyway rather than the highway.
The jolly elf would certainly have trouble making it through downtown Suffolk, with lane closures on East Constance Road, near the North Main Street intersection expected to continue for another five weeks.
Crews are installing an underground duct bank system that will be used to house utility lines, said Dennis Craff, spokesman for the city.
Once the undergrounding in complete, crews will install a new waterline, sidewalk, median, and curbing along the eastbound lanes of Constance Road.
Meanwhile, work will begin on the installation of a similar duct bank system on the westbound lane after the New Year, Craff said.
The city will implement a detour for westbound traffic on East Constance on Jan. 3.
Craff advised citizens to check local media outlets for updates on land closures and detours in coming weeks.
&uot; We’re encouraging all through traffic to use the Route 58 Bypass to avoid delays,&uot; Craff said.
