Suffolk Del. S. Chris Jones was one of five recipients of the Legislator Award at the sixth annual Professional Leadership Seminary for Virginia Educators on Sunday in Richmond.
During the awards banquet held on Sunday evening, the association recognized outstanding educators as well as their Legislator of the Year.
Normally the Legislator Award goes to a single senator or delegate who is seen by the organization to have helped legislatively to enhance career and technical education within the Commonwealth.
With the huge budget battle of last January, however, the members felt that several legislators qualified for the award the year. Therefore, the Association recognized Del. Jones; Sen. Thomas K. Normant, Jr., Third District, Sen. Kenneth W. Stolle, Eighth District; Del. L. Preston Bryant, Jr., 23rd District, and Del. Kenneth R. Plum, 36th District for their collective work within the Virginia Legislature to bring about a state budget that greatly enhanced education in the Commonwealth of Virginia but especially career and technical education.
Several people were in attendance at the dinner including Dr. Emily Richardson, former supervisor of Career and Technical Education for Suffolk Public Schools and president of the Virginia Career Education Foundation and Betty Jo English, a teacher at King’s Fork Middle School and the president-elect of the Virginia Business Education Association.
