Camp gets new Dean

Harriette J. Arrington was recently hired as one of two new campus deans at Paul D. Camp Community College.

She will serve at the Hobbs Suffolk Campus as academic dean. Prior to coming to the College, she was the literacy coordinator for Newport News Public Schools and an educational consultant with Libra Literacy Consulting.

From 1994 to 2003, Arrington held the position of associate professor of curriculum and instruction in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Virginia State University, a master’s degree in reading from Ohio State University and a doctorate in instructional research and design from Purdue University. In addition, she is the past-president of the Kentucky Reading Association and member of several other reading organizations. Arrington, an accomplished storyteller, is the author of two books for children: The Heart of a Friendship, and Friends Again?.

While the books are written for children, she believes they are timeless and suitable for all age groups.
