W. Henry Rountree Sr.

William Henry Rountree Sr., 83, died February 28, 2005, at Obici Hospital. Born March 26, 1921 in Nansemond County, he was the son of the late William Jackson and Bessie R. Rountree. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Thomas Rountree and Wade Rountree and a sister, Marie Bailey.

Mr. Rountree was an Army Veteran of WW II and the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and member of the Lee Jackson Bible Class. He was employed with Community Electric for 32 years. He was a member of the U. S. Power Squadron and an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Virginia Rountree; son and daughter-in-law, William H. “Billy” Rountree Jr. and Dana C. Rountree; granddaughter, Kristie R. Dailey and husband, Daniel; grandson, William Jason Rountree and sister, Mary Helen Brinkley all of Suffolk.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jarvis Hearn with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home and Crematory from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Hillcrest Baptist Church in memory of William Henry Rountree Sr. or the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad.
