21 student nurses to be capped here

Five Suffolk and Nansemond County girls will be among those tomorrow night who will take &uot;the Florence Nightingale pledge&uot; and participate in the solemn ceremony in the auditorium of the nurses’ residence at Obici Memorial Hospital here.

mark their acceptance of a career of nursing in the traditional manner.

This is called &uot;Capping Exercises&uot; and is followed by the lighting of candles symbolical of some moment in the life of Florence Nightingale whose record or work is said to be an inspiration particularly to those in the field of medicine.

Following the Capping Exercises and other ceremonies and speaking in the auditorium, a reception will be held for the student nurses and their friends and families.

Girl Scouts Plan for awards court

Their plans disrupted earlier by the flu epidemic, the Tri-County Girl Scout Council yesterday announced its rearranged program.

Court of Awards was scheduled for next Tuesday evening at the Episcopal Church, beginning at 7:30.

The date for the opening of Camp Myrtle O’ was set for March 22.

Other dates were Day Camp for Brownies, June 17, and Day Camp for Intermediates, June 17-20.

Brownie Skit Night will precede the opening of camp by one day and was listed for March 21 at the Episcopal Church.

Senior training courses were slated March 25 in Williamsburg, April 1 in Hampton, April 8 in Newport News and April 15 in Suffolk.

Grand jury panel named

Appointments to serve on the Nansemond County Grand Jury, which meet Monday to weigh evidence in Commonwealth criminal cases, have been made for seven county residents according to John H. Powell, clerk of the Circuit Court.

The members of the March term county grand jury are: Lyman Tripp, Edward Sweat, U.E. Pettyjohn, Jarres F. Sumner, P.D. Pruden Sr., Herman F. Outlaw and R. D. Howell Jr.
