Merle R. Wise

Merle Raymond Wise, 83, of Mooresville, W. Va., went to his eternal rest, Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va.

He was born September 8, 1921 in Morresville, a son of the late Dorah A. and Arie Spitznogle Wise.

He graduated from Blacksville High School in 1939 and worked at C I Dupont until 1942. He then proudly served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to December of 1945. He served as a sergeant with the 800th Military Police in Australia, New Guinea, Philippines, and Japan. He received expert bayonet marksman medals, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon with the one bronze star, good conduct medal and World War II Victory Medal.

He retired with 37 years of service with Allegheny Power (formerly Monongahela Power Co). He retired in 1983. He was a Protestant by faith and a member of the American Legion Department of W. Va. Inc., of Charleston.

Survivors are two sons and spouses, Robert M. and Anita Wise of Leetonia, Ohio and Virgil and Karen Wise of Spring Hill, Fla.; one daughter, Jeanie Wise, with whom he made his home; one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Dorothy Wise of Westover; one sister, Ruby Tennant of Mooresville; one grandson and spouse, Michael and Kirsten Wise of Suffolk; and three great-grandchildren, Zoie, Zane and Payton Wise, all of Suffolk.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Mae Wise; and two brothers, Kenneth Wise and Herschel Wise.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. today with the Evangelist Aaron Snider officiating. The interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress where full military honors will be performed. Send condolences to the family at www.tennantfuneralhome.com.
