Charlie William Goodman, 89, of the 400 block of Hackley Road, Gates, N.C. died Friday, March 18, 2005 in Albermarle Hospital. He was a native of Gates County and member of Union Branch Baptist Church, a mason and a Veteran of the Army. He was predeceased by his wife, Janie Beatrice Gatling Goodman; his parents, Charlie Hood Goodman and Dahlia Roscoe Goodman Lassiter.

He is survived by his daughter, Julia L. Riddick of Portsmouth; two sons, Charlie A. Goodman of Hampton and Glendon A. Goodman of Gates; one sister, Ida Saunders of Sunbury; one brother, George L. Goodman of Sunbury; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2005 at Union Branch Missionary Baptist Church of Corapeake with the Rev. N. T. Thomas officiating. The burial will be in the Gatling Family Cemetery at Gatling Road of Sunbury. Friends may join the family from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stallings Funeral Chapel of Gatesville and the family will be at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Glendon and Iris Goodman, 443 Hackley Road, Gates.
