The former Nansemond-Suffolk Academy coach charged with soliciting sex from a 13-year-old Virginia Beach boy over the Internet will stand trial next week.
A bench trial for Kenneth Wayne Crowder, 52, of the 200 block of Northbrook Avenue is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday in Virginia Beach Circuit Court, said Deputy Clerk Diana Jacobs.
Crowder, an NSA football and basketball coach for the past eight years, was charged on Dec. 28 with attempted indecent liberties and use of a communication/electronic device to facilitate certain crimes against children.
Crowder’s arrest was the result of an undercover operation between Suffolk and Beach investigators, Suffolk Police Department Detective Joyce Williams said in December.
Police arrested him when he went to meet with the &uot;youth&uot; he had been communicating with via the Internet.
Crowder has been free on bond, pending the outcome of his trial.
