Seven new firefighters recently joined the Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue.

Two of the new recruits, Crystal Renee Johnson, 22, and James Patrick Beamon, 29, are from Suffolk.

The other five come from across the region, including Christopher Michael Barrs, 26, of Chincoteague; William Harrison Brown, 31, of Ahoskie, N.C.; Durand Oba Coltrane, 32, and James Allen Schmeling,27, both of Portsmouth; and Raymond Lewis Willis, 41, of Newport News.

The new firefighters will be assigned to the Southside Regional Fire Academy in Portsmouth for the next three months.
