Tim Van Petten knocked in the first two goals of his varsity career and Chris Smith added a pair as Lakeland won its first game of the season Wednesday, beating visiting Heritage 7-1. Jean-Louis Bile scored a goal and added two assists in the win.

Bile sent an assist to Smith two minutes in, and Smith handed one to Van Petten four minutes later. Jake Conrad headed in an Andrew Beard corner kick at the 12-minute mark, and Justin Schleeper looped an assist across the field to Smith for a 4-0 lead.

Heritage scored in the closing minutes of the half, but Bile faked out a pair of defenders and sent a shot just inside the right corner of the opposing net 64 seconds into the second. He bounced a shot off the left goalpost at the 19-minute mark, and Van Petten knocked it in. Mark Nygaard got Lakeland’s final goal with eight minutes to play.
