Tony Leonard Johnson, 46, of the 900 block of East Washington Street, Suffolk, died April 4, 2005 in Obici Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk.
He was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and attended Virginia Union University on a basketball scholarship. He was a self-employed groundskeeper.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Jean Johnson; father, Jefferson Knight of Elizabeth City, N.C.; sister, Michelle K. Richmond of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three brothers, Ronald Johnson of Miami, Fla., Jefferson Knight Jr. of Hempstead, N.Y., and Michael J. Knight (Evelys) of Portsmouth; a special friend, Buddy Lawrence of Suffolk; twelve nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005 in Greater Sweet Beulah Church, 137 Maple St., Suffolk, by Bishop Madison G. Copeland. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Crocker Funeral Home and will assemble at the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. for the funeral procession.
