Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hewett are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Carrie Bonta to Mr. Frederick M. Cunningham Jr.

Bonta is a native of the Franklin/Southampton County area. She is the maternal granddaughter of the late Harvey and Jewel Ward of Whiteville and the paternal granddaughter of the late Charlie and Carrie Hewett of Shallotte, N.C.

Bonta is also a graduate of Franklin High, ECPI, Southampton Memorial School of Practical Nursing and Louise Obici School of Professional Nursing. Bonta is currently employed at Obici Hospital in Suffolk.

Fred is from the San Diego, Calif. area. He is the son of Frederick M. and Joanne Cunningham Sr. of Conneaut Lake, Pa., the maternal grandson of the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Jean Saulsbery of Conneaut Lake, and the paternal grandson of the late Mr. Benjamin and Mrs. Katielee Cunningham of Port Arthur, Texas.

Fred is a graduate of the Army and Naval Academy in Carlsbad, Calif., and the Hampton Roads Regional Academy of Criminal Justice.

Fred is currently employed by the city of Suffolk Police Department, with 15 years of service and holds the rank of sergeant.
