Staff report
If you live in the south Suffolk area and have some old
tires that you’d like to get rid of, the city Sanitation Department has an easy way to do it – on Saturday, just drop them off by the curb between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and the rubber spheres will be picked up.
It’s part of one of the department’s Tire Amnesty Days, done a few times a year to keep things clean and save a few bucks.
&uot;We don’t pick up tires on a regular basis because we have to pay for them and put them in a separate load,&uot; said sanitation superintendent Carlos Ward. &uot;This is done to keep people from illegally dumping them.&uot;
The tires will be picked up, cleaned up and taken to a landfill to be disposed of. The next pickup is scheduled for June in the Crittenden area.
