Indictments handed down in beating case

Five men accused of beating an 18-year-old Newsoms man in March will stand trial for the attack.

A grand jury on Wednesday handed down indictments charging Terrell Artis, 19; Dontrail Eley, 18; Dontra Artis, 18; James C. Scott III, 19; and Keith Sessoms, 18, with one count each of malicious wounding.

According to court records, Marvin Jackson, was assaulted while visiting a friend’s apartment at 1200 East Washington St. on March 5. He told police that the five suspects repeatedly struck, kicked and hit him with a chair while yelling homosexual slurs.

The five men also dumped hot grease on him, court records said.

Jackson was treated at Obici Hospital after the accident.

The grand jury also indicted:

-Roy Lee Richardson, charged with solicitation to commit a felony (victim under 18), crimes against nature, indecent liberties and conspiracy to commit a felony.

-Byron Jeffery Miller, charged with driving while intoxicated under age 21, reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter.
