Fire safety camp enrolling

Registration is open for this year’s Fire and Life Safety Camp for kids ages, 7-10.

According to Pam King, Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue’s Public Education Specialist, this year’s camp will have 3 sessions. The cost is $35 per session, which includes lunch and snack each day and a Camp tee shirt.

Activities include: a ride on a fire truck, using real fire hoses, Fire Safety House, water safety, hands-on first aid training, natural disaster awareness, a police drug-detection dog in action, a 55-foot obstacle course with a slide provided by Special Events, videos, activity sheets and lunch with the firefighters.

Sessions are as follows:

Session 1, for kids 7-10 years old, will be held June 20-24, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fire Station # 5, located in the North Suffolk Public Safety Building, 3901 Bridge Road.

Session 2, for kids 7-10 years old, will be held July 18-22, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fire Station # 5, located in the North Suffolk Public Safety Building, 3901 Bridge Road.

Session 3, for kids 7-10 years old, Aug.15-19, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fire Station #3, 1001 White Marsh Road.

King emphasized that kids will learn how to promote their own personal safety, as well as that of their family and community, through numerous activities that combine teaching and imagination.

In addition, the activities planned will correlate with requirements for several Boy and Girl Scout patches.

Deadline for sign-up is June 3 at 5 p.m. Parents are encouraged to register early as the camp fills quickly. To register or for more information, contact Pam King at 923-4787.
