Ashley Aston doubled home Sarah Brooks in the bottom of the eighth inning as Nansemond River sent its seniors out on top Thursday with a 3-2 win over Hickory. Heather Horton, Kristina Carpenter and Natalie Sims played their final home game.

The baseball team wasn’t as lucky, falling 2-0.

Both teams end their regular season Monday at Western Branch and will compete in the Southeastern District playoffs beginning May 24 at Oscar Smith. Final seeding for the tournament had not been determined at press time.
