Abingdon Mayor Lois Humphreys was a long way from her southwestern Virginia home when she visited Suffolk last Wednesday.
Stopping by the Suffolk Visitor Center midday, Humphreys was accompanied by Betty Bryant and Betty Brinkley, Suffolk Visitor Center volunteers.
Longtime friends, Bryant, Brinkley and Humphreys spent the day sightseeing and discovering what makes their two cities unique.
Humphreys is expected to stay in Suffolk through the end of the week.
Abingdon is located in the far-reaching western tip of Virginia.
Founded in 1778, it has long been a center for cultural arts and historical attractions.
Abingdon features a twenty block historic district that is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The city is home to the world-famed Barter Theatre, The State Theatre of Virginia – that counts Gregory Peck, Ernest Borgnine and Patricia Neal among its many alumni.
