Impact Suffolk

The citywide prayer meeting sponsored by Impact Suffolk will be held at Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 215 Webb St., in Suffolk at 10 a.m. today. There will be a potluck lunch at noon. Smithfield Gardens

Smithfield Gardens Inc. is celebrating our 16th annual Flower Festival Saturday, June 18. This is a day full of free classes, door prizes, and great sales, plus our display gardens will be looking gorgeous.

The summer session of storytime will begin on Monday, June 20. Pre-registration for Tuesday and Thursday session and will begin on May 31.

At 10 a.m. Monday, school age storytime conducted by Beth Lyon-Suhring for grades K-3 no pre-registration needed for Monday storytime only. Alumni offer scholarships

Applications for the Suffolk Chapter of Norfolk State University Alumni Association Scholarship Award of $500 are available from the guidance department at King’s Fork, Lakeland and Nansemond River high schools. Graduating seniors planning to further their education at Norfolk State University are encouraged to pick up an application from their guidance counselor. Applications should be completed and mailed to the post office box listed on the application by June 6. Call 539-9407 for more information.

Homework assistance

Parents should enroll their children in the After School Homework Assistance/Tutorial Program at East Suffolk Community Center. The program is from 3:30 until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for students in Grades K-7.

Applications may be picked up from the center from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Boston butt sale

The Magnolia Ruritan Club will hold a boston butt sale on June 4 at their clubhouse at 1047 Nansemond Parkway. King’s Fork fundraiser

Power wheelchairs available

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled power (electric) wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair in their home, and who meet the additional guidelines of the program. SPOR-AC holding signups.

The Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the SPOR-AC Summer Leadership Program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays July 11 to Aug. 4 at Nansemond River High. The program offers a variety of team-building activities, computers, educational seminars and field trips. Parents must have completed registration form, proof of child’s age and a $20 fee. Only checks and money orders payable to Ronald Williams, treasurer, will be accepted. Children must be between 12-15 years. Senior aerobics offered

Mother and Daughter brunch

The Friends Christian Club is sponsoring a Mother and Daughter Brunch, featuring a musical show and games on Saturday, June 4. Relay for Life teams forming

Volunteers are needed to form teams for the American Cancer Society’s 2005 Isle of Wight Relay for Life.
