Alumni offer scholarships

Applications for the Suffolk Chapter of Norfolk State University Alumni Association Scholarship Award of $500 are available from the guidance department at King’s Fork, Lakeland and Nansemond River high schools. Graduating seniors planning to further their education at Norfolk State University are encouraged to pick up an application from their guidance counselor. Parents should enroll their children in the After School Homework Assistance/Tutorial Program at East Suffolk Community Center. The program is from 3:30 until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for students in Grades K-7.

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled power (electric) wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair in their home, and who meet the additional guidelines of the program. The Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the SPOR-AC Summer Leadership Program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays July 11 to Aug. 4 at Nansemond River High.
