Narrated historic bus tours offered

Historic Suffolk narrated bus tours are now being conducted.

The tours, a project of the Suffolk Department of Tourism, are an hour long and will be conducted through August. The next scheduled tour is on June 4. The bus will board at 9:45 a.m. at the Suffolk Visitor Center and depart at 10 a.m.

A tourism department spokeswoman said Sue Woodward of the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society has been narrating the tours, which began May 7.

&uot;Suffolk’s rich heritage dates back to the early 17th century, when Captain John Smith first encountered the Nansemond Indians on the Nansemond River,&uot; a flyer for the tours states. &uot;Even now, you can trace Suffolk’s legacy through our historic homes and neighborhoods, churches and Virginia Civil War trails.&uot;

Upcoming tours include June 8, 18 & 22; July 2, 6, 16, 20 &30; and Aug. 3, 13, 17, 27 & 31.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for seniors (60+) and children (3-12). For reservations and more information contact Valencia Moore, Visitor Center coordinator, at 923-3880 or 866-SEE-SUFK.
