Accident halts traffic on 58 bypass, Route 460

An accident at the 58 bypass and Pitchkettle Road in Suffolk snarled traffic for more than an hour Wednesday.
At 2:31 p.m., police and rescue workers responded to the west bound lane of Route 58 where a car and tractor-trailer collided. The vehicle rolled under the trailer, said Lt. Debbie George, Suffolk Police spokeswoman.
No serious injuries were reported, and no one was transported to the hospital as a result, said George.
When the driver of the 18-wheeler slowed down for a red light, the car’s operator &uot;apparently tried to switch lanes and drove under the trailer,&uot; police report.
Charges may be pending, said George.
Traffic was backed up to Route 460, with drivers reduced to one lane.
