Orchestra performing at Huguenot Road Baptist
The Huguenot Road Baptist Church Orchestra of Richmond, will be in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2005 at the Western Branch Baptist Church in Suffolk. This 30-piece Orchestra under the direction of Phillip Brown will present a program that will be appealing to all ages. The HRBC Orchestra is made up entirely of church member volunteers raging in age from Middle School through adults. The orchestra regularly plays in worship services as well as larger works and concerts and is currently on an Eastern Virginia concert tour.
The program will include a wide variety of musical styles something for everyone. There will be well-known hymn arrangements as well as new contemporary favorites. Selections will be performed specifically for children. There is no cost for this event.
Young Women in Christ sponsor formal ball
Young Women in Christ Ministries is sponsoring a formal ball at 5:30 p.m. July 9 at the Planters Club. The evening’s entertainment will include dinner, a praise team, praise dancers and raffle drawings. There will be a $20 donation for this event. &uot;Are you Spiritually Fit for the Kingdon?&uot; The speaker for the occasion will be the Rev. Dr. Clinton Austin and Mrs. Theora Austin, pastor and First Lady of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.
The 8 a.m. worship service speaker will be Deaconess Theora Austin. She is a native of Fort Meyers, Fla. and the daughter of the late Rev. E. L. and Lucille Hamilton. Deaconess Austin received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in english, drama, and fine arts from Florida A&M University and has completed graduate studies at Colorado College, Hartford University, the University of Virginia and George Mason University. She has a master’s of arts degree in Christian Education from Wesley Theological Seminary. Deaconess Austin retired in June 1988 as an English Teacher in Fairfax County, and has since developed and facilitated &uot;Higher Ground,&uot; a spiritual growth seminar designed to enable women to cultivate a more intimate &uot;day-by-day&uot; walk with God. Currently, Deaconess Austin is an instructor of speaking, writing, worship and Bible study for teachers in the Evans-Smith Institute. She holds membership in numerous organizations including the District Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows International and is a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Washington, D.C. where she serves as deaconess, director of Christian Education, teaches an adult Sunday School class, a facilitator for monthly spiritual growth seminar, the Women’s Club, and drama coach.
The 11:15 a.m. worship service speaker will be Dr. Clinton Austin, a native of Pensacola. He is currently pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Austin is a graduate of Florida A&M University with a degree in mathematics; Wesley Theological Seminary with a master’s of divinity degree; and Howard University with a Doctor of Ministry degree. He holds membership in numerous organizations including the Hampton University Ministers’ Conference, Northern Virginia Baptist Association, Baptist Ministers Conference of Washington, DC and vicinity, and is the Coordinator of the Northern Virginia area branch of the Evans-Smith Leadership Institute, an affiliate of Virginia Union University.
