Area police run for Special Olympics
Staff Report
Suffolk Police officers joined law enforcement officers across the state Thursday for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics.
Suffolk officers picked up the torch from Chesapeake officers at the Suffolk-Chesapeake line on Bridge Road.
Lt. Tim Davenport, the department’s coordinator for the event, received the torch from Chesapeake. Suffolk officers then delivered the torch to the Suffolk-Isle of Wight County line.
The Torch Run is held in the beginning of June every year as over 3500 Virginia Law Enforcement Officials carry the Torch with the Flame of Hope more than 1,900 miles.
The Torch arrives in Richmond, Virginia during the middle part of June and is taken to the opening ceremonies of the Virginia State Summer Games at The University of Richmond.
