This time of year is great for lovers of fresh vegetables. New potatoes, corn, tomatoes, squash, onions, green beans, everything is in abundance and tasty.

You owe it to yourself and your taste buds to make it out one Saturday to the farmer's market operated by the tourism department at the train station. Local growers have some of the best veggies available at reasonable prices.

I stopped by Saturday for the second time this season to get a loaf of the bread that is sold there. I'm a big fan of sourdough and the vendor there as some of the best I've tasted. This past Saturday, he had a whole wheat sourdough that was even better than the regular. A little pricey at more than $5 a loaf, but worth it nonetheless.

The farmer's market is one of those things that won't last if people don't turn out. Those who sell there are trying to turn a buck and if they are unable to do that, they won't bother, so please give a try. You won't be sorry.
