Peanut Pals coming to Suffolk, June 30, 2005

I mentioned a couple times here about a Web site marketing blitz we are conducting this week. Penny Gable is the person from Town News, Inc. who is in Suffolk this week helping us with this effort. She’s from Iowa or somesuch Midwestern locale.
She was telling me that when she heard she was scheduled to come to Suffolk, that there was something vaguely familiar about the name but she couldn’t put her finger on it.
As soon as she stepped off the plane in Norfolk, it came to her…peanuts.
Penny, coincidentally, is a member of a group called &uot;Peanut Pals.&uot; It’s a nationwide organization of collectors of Planters memorabilia.
She brought me a copy of the group’s current newsletter, which tells of their recent Las Vegas convention, and some upcoming meetings in Hannibal, Mo., Birdsboro, Pa. and Atlanta.
It also has several pages about Wilkes Barre, Pa., where Amedeo Obici was from. I have only skimmed through it.
On the back page of the newsletter, they are welcoming new members to the group. One that jumped out at me was Lynette Brugeman, of Suffolk, Va.
I pointed this out to Penny and told her that Lynette was our tourism director. Penny then told me that she just heard that the Peanut Pals’ 2007 convention will be held right here in Suffolk and the news is so new it has not even been in their newsletter.
Small world.
