Truck driver a victim in hit-and-run accident

A North Carolina truck driver was involved in a hit-and-run accident on South Quay Road in Suffolk around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Robert Benjamin Lassiter, 67, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.,
was driving a tractor trailer westbound when another vehicle moved into the right lane and slowed to make a right turn onto Elwood Road, police said. Hitting his brakes suddenly, Lassiter lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median and two lanes of eastbound traffic before hitting the opposite ditch bank.
Estimated damage to the truck was $5,000.
No additional information was available from police as of Friday evening.
