On Thursday, as mourners remembered the life of 14-year-old Diane Holland, who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting last weekend, Suffolk Police issued another public plea for information that will lead to the arrest of the culprit.

Holland was standing with a 16-year-old neighbor in the 300 block of Hunter Street Saturday when a black or dark-colored mid-sized four-door vehicle, possibly a Honda, passed by. Several shots were fired, striking both teens. Holland died later at Obici Hospital. The other youth was shot in the leg.

&uot;We don’t believe this shooting was random,&uot; said Lt. Debbie George, Suffolk Police spokeswoman and a member of the Criminal Investigations Section, &uot;but we don’t believe this 14-year-old child was the target.&uot;

George added that several people were attending a party in the neighborhood, where there were several witnesses.

&uot;There were a lot of people attending this party and a lot of people that witnessed what happened,&uot; George said. &uot;Experience has taught that us that people talk or brag after they commit crimes.

&uot;Even if people are concerned with their safety if they speak with the police, we have Crime Line where they can remain anonymous. There is no reason that a child’s murder should remain unsolved.&uot;

But to date, leads have not been fruitful, and police are certain someone has information critical to the investigation.

&uot;We’ve followed up on every lead we’ve gotten,&uot; said George, &uot;but we certainly know there is more information out there.&uot;
