Bennett’s Creek All-Stars start tourneys off 6-0

How can a 7-1 victory be the toughest win of the day?

When the Bennett’s Creek little league baseball All-Star teams are involved.

All six of the local teams started off District 6 competition Saturday at Cradock with resounding wins, starting their bid to state competition. The events continued Monday afternoon, with none of the games finished at press time (the softball tournaments, to be held at Olive Branch, were cancelled Saturday when the umpires didn’t show, and rescheduling was not known at press time).

After the seniors started off the day by whomping Wilson 12-4 on the strength of three Travis Stoner home runs, the 9-10 American team beat Cradock 7-1 (the 9-10 and 11-12 leagues have both National and American All-Star squads).

The junior team followed suit in a defeat of Cavalier Manor, and the 9-10 National squad slid past Cavalier Manor 13-5, as Bryce Strong lived up to his name by recording eight strikeouts and scoring four runs.

The 11-12 American team scuttered Wilson 15-4, and the National team roared past Cavalier Manor 22-2. Scotty Smith and Ben Joslin scored three runs each in the National victory.
