Emma Wood Cross

Emma Wood Cross, 72, of 313 Bullock Street, Suffolk, was called to her heavenly home on July 11, 2005 at Obici Memorial Hospital.

Emma was a native of Southampton County.

She was born on April 27, 1933, to the late Frank and Lillian Ricks Wood.

She retired from Planters after many years in the Sandwich Department.

She was also a member of Local Union 26.

Emma was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church for many years.

Four of Emma's brothers, Charles Wood, Joe Wood, John Wood, and George Wood, predeceased her.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband of 53 years, Vernon Cross, of Suffolk; two daughters, her beloved, Sharon Cross Scott, of Suffolk, and Mary Riddick and her husband Melvin Riddick of Gatesville, N.C.; one son, Vernon Cross, Jr. and his wife Laura Cross of Atlanta, Ga.; three devoted sisters, Martha W. Morings, Elizabeth W. Green, both of Chesapeake, Estella W. Jones and husband, Alex J. Jones of Suffolk; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a devoted god-daughter, Gladys Franklin.

Also, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives are left with memories.

A homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005 in Tabernacle Christian Church by the Rev. Dr. Carlton Upton.

The body will lie in state from 11:30 a.m. until the service.

Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetary.

The family will receive friends at 313 Bullock Street, Suffolk.

Crocker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
