I hope everyone's ready to get their funk on tomorrow night.
The Oregon Hill Funk AllStars will be in performance at Constant's Wharf. The park opens at 5:30 and the band takes the stage at 6:30.
According to the department of Parks and Recreation information, the band covers James Brown, Duke Ellington, Marvin Gaye and others as well as performs original material.
It should be a lot of fun and I hope to see a lot of people out there.
The News-Herald is now among the event's sponsors and we'll be on sight with a tent offering free candy for the kids, free trial subscriptions and an opportunity to win a DVD player in a drawing. We'll also be offering a DVD player for any new or renewed one-year subscriptions. We'll also offer discounted three and six-month subscriptions.
Please pay us a visit.
I received a visit yesterday from a local racing enthusiast who would like to see the City of Suffolk get behind the effort to resuscitate Southampton Motor Speedway. The track went bellyup last year, despite drawing good weekend crowds.
At the last council meeting, Vice Mayor Leroy Bennett noted that he has been asked by constituents to for some kind of racing venue.
I don't really understand the Southampton deal. Apparently, the gentleman would like to see Suffolk join with Franklin and Southampton County in some kind of consortium to operate the track. Not being a racing fan, I don't know. It could have some merit. I'll just pass it along.
